Last Wednesday was an interesting spectacle. This email from the party bus organizer the amazing Katie Wall sums up much of the evening. Back Door No Baby = best kball team ever.
Highlights from last night:
(1) Edward 40hands is probably unnecessary on a party bus
(2) Matt Park showed up with about 100 pounds of ice in a backpack. It was so heavy that I couldn’t even pick it up off the bench. He may be skinny, but homeboy is strong. And dedicated to cold drinks.(3) Will’s CD paled in comparison to my DOL hits. Never hate on Fergie again.
(4) Liz Cho is a stripper pole MASTER. So hot.
(5) I got a lap dance from Liz. ALSO so hot. And also caught on video thanks to Keeling.
(6) Will was smashed (shocking), fell down the hill, and took out some older woman. I had to buy her off with $20 worth of beer and sent her on her way.
(7) E. Lind wore jorts with her pockets hanging out the front. SO HOT.
(8) Also, E. Lind rocks my world. Heart you.
(9) There was a lot of beer spilled on crotchal regions. Anne Jacobs, Big Gay Scott, Will, Marisa. Fantastic.
(10) Marisa and Elizabeth wore sunglasses at night like the champs that they are.
(11) We sang, stomped, and fist pumped our little hearts out. And now I have no voice at all and sound like a freak.
(12) The new Journey lead singer knows how to rock. And he sounds like Steve Perry! Magical.
And, in a party bus first (and hopefully last), an esteemed member of our group spent the night in jail. Not sure what happened exactly, but when Will and I got to the medical tent Bobby had already been taken to the Manassas jail for the night. Bobby, we love you.
Heart rocked my faaaace off, but I couldn’t really care much less about Jouney. They were fine, but lets be honest we weren’t there for the music…or were we? Now here’s some fiiiine photogs of the happenings.

Just way too appropriate considering that I kitty sat two adorable Kittles this past week. These are a few of my favorite things…
1. Blog: Cake Wrecks…if you’re reading this I’m almost positive that you have looked at this since it has frequented my gchat status. It still makes me laugh.
2. DJ/remix: The Count & Sinden
I am quite impressed with these guys… they have a similar djing style and musical choices as our local Dj’s here via nouveau riche/Will Eastman and I love every moment of this mix.
Hit me on my beeper beeper beeper beeper… That song may just be where you’ve heard them before. Now get a free 40 minute dance out session here: http://www.factmagazine.co.uk/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=512&Itemid=28
3. Fashion: Khaki Cargo Shorts
Hold on to ‘em boys there coming back and I’m so excited. Oh wait, you never stopped wearing them? Just make sure you pair it with a collared shirt. Bro-ti-tude! For reals tho, I’m not sure why but this has become a deal breaker for me. I’ve recently taken a poll and it seems that their presence bothers me a whole heck of a lot more than most girls and guys. I say acceptable on Sunday afternoon, but any other time their presence is a lazy excuse for a man purse. No, I’m not being pretentious.
4. Music: Concert Edition!
There are several shows I want to frequent starting at the end of September. So I’m seriously thinking I may need to set up a tent outside of the 930 club with all the time I will be spending there. You all must come if you’re not on some LAME solar powered bus tour through the everglades or something. Look I made it easy they’re all linked to where you can buy your tix!
9/26: Cut Copy/The Presets
10/2: Ratatat
10/4: Chromeo
10/8: Hot Chip
10/9: Of Montreal
I will be attempting to make it to all of these shows… and you’re welcome for the soft sale on Of Montreal. If you want to go with me, please, please let me know.
Posted in Favorite Things, Music, the bad and the ugly
If you know me you may have noticed that I tend to become obsessed with music/websites/art for a short period of time and then move on. I even have a hard time keeping up with myself sometimes so I am starting a Favorite Things section of the blog. Much like Oprah, because she’s sexy and rich.
1. Music:
Recent musical obsession. Interesting take on 80′s revival mixing hip hop and 80′s synths with current style. Highlights include I told her on Alderaan, reminds me of a summer ballad circa ’87, their current ‘single’ I lust you, and another personal favorite Belfast. The album is really a concept album inspired by the American playboy engineer John Delorean who developed some kind of famous car… (pretty 80′s fab, no?). Unfortunately, it is not currently available on emusic. So, I’ve been using amazon for downloads. Really Amazon’s mp3 downloads should be on my favorite things list. It’s cheaper than itunes, doesn’t have a computer sharing limit and compatible with every program.
take a listen to all of I Lust You free here: http://music.download.com/neonneon/3600-8362_32-101133770.html
2. Fashion:
Refinery 29 a NYC based blog about independent fashion, music, travel and other wonderful whims. Very current and helpful. I especially like this article, thank you ebay and highest thank you Refinery 29 for pointing out what my current wardrobe is missing. Like vintage lace…..
3. DJ/Mix
Digitalism, Kitsuné Tabloid Mix
My psuedo obsession with Kitsuné the French fashion line turned music production/label is not necessarily new. Since stumbling on them sometime last fall I’ve paid less attention to their clothing and have definitely seen their music popping up all over. They even released a few songs from one of my faves, Fischespooner during the spring/summer. If you’ve ever called my phone you are bound to recognize this:
Okay, but I am getting way off the point. Get this mix. http://www.emusic.com/album/Kitsun%C3%A9-Tabloid-Compiled-Mixed-by-Digitalism-Kitsun%C3%A9-Tabloid-Compiled-Mixed-by-Digitalism-MP3-Download/11252563.html
Unfortunately, they don’t have it as a single continuous song anymore, but you can download it as a gapless album and view the mix. Seriously worth an emusic subscription especially considering the free downloads they give you for signing up! Digitalism and I are on the same page, for reals, it kind of freaked me out when I saw the list. Not only does it have most of the artists I’ve been listening to lately, but even the Hercules and Love Affair song, Raise Me Up, which is by far my favorite on the album. Get it yo. Listen to a very small portion of it free on the Kitsuné myspace page. In the meantime I’ll be finding more Digitalism.

This last weekend was excellente…
Highlights of the weekend include Swann St. party, King’s Dominion and Cracker Barrel.
Friday: Local 16/Stetsons with good company.
Saturday: I have decided that the Olympics mean a lot more and hold more sentimental value as we get older. I spent Saturday watching the Olympics, working out (credit to perfect athlete bodies to get me off the couch) and cleaning. Every time they showed parts of the opening ceremony (I had missed) an overwhelming ‘worldly’ feeling washed over me. I had intended on using Youtube to watch the ceremony while searching for apartments if it wasn’t for the sneaky note my apartment building’s management left on my door knocker… informing me of their intention to show the place the very next day. Less Olympics was watched, my computer was still unable to connect to the internet and swiffer dusters were purchased.
Later I grabbed a drink at Zaytinya with Marghet and her co-workers. After, Marghet and I walked over to the ‘goldleaf’ studio where we met up with some friends Jesse and Steph. I believe an intern from Portland best summed up this section of the night claiming that the music in the space reminded him of home and not necessarily in a good way, ‘Slightly socially awkward musicians playing it up to a point of cuteness’ it wasn’t a bad get together I was just in more of a social/party mood than a sit and listen one.
We all metroed over to the Swann Street party, which was great.
Sunday: Definite best day of the weekend. Jesse, Steph, Lacey and I drove out to King’s Dominion a theme park near Richmond. They have 14 or so roller coasters and we rode as many as possible before feasting on Cracker Barrel (I had never been). Our waiter Andrew was great. If you ever see him at the Fredricksburg, VA location tell him we say, hi…if he hasn’t offed himself yet. Mucho butter, decapitation and adrenalin was used by all.
Note to self: do NOT google search decapitation for spelling purposes.
(I’m trying to decide if I will do recaps in the future, because they’re boring…let me know what you think?!)

What an excellent Tuesday night. Met up with Mr. Sugar for some dinner and drinks at Chi Cha on U street before we headed over the 930 club for the show. Got there about half way through Hercules and Love Affair’s set…and we quickly regretted our tardiness. While I was semi-familiar with their music I could not have predicted the genius of their nu wave disco showmanship… totally androgynous. The only adjective appropriate for the show, Fabulous.
So, I’ve decided to post the video for their latest single.
Gnarls Barkley was a happy surprise. I don’t usually go all sappy on how AMAZING a show was, but this was definitely in my top 5 of all time. Cee-Lo Green’s voice was even better in person and his charisma on stage balanced DJ Danger Mouse’s mute and bashful persona. (Credit to their Odd couple theme) Plus, the rest of the band was ace. They had passion…playing their instruments flawlessly and singing back up vocals the whole time. Overall, Gnarls Barkley sounded more authentic in concert than I could have ever predicted listening to their albums.
Highlights: A Capella ‘Transformer’ and cover of Radiohead’s ‘Reckoner’
Gripe: No one in DC dances!!!

I always knew I would grow up to be like this, merciless to my desires for the new, searching for the different, pining for tailoring and clean lines…I have been consumed with my desire for fashion. And to what do I owe credit for this revival? My lack of income?! Impeding credit card debt?! No, the reason for this reinvigorated passion is clear, FASHION BLOGS!
My brain tells me that viewing these blogs is a harmless activity along the lines of window shopping, but really much safer since you can’t actually purchase the clothes directly. Yet, here I am about to wet my pants in a onsie adorning quarter life crisis (easy to do considering how difficult it is to actually PEE in a onsie). Can I take control of my new found excitement or are fashion blogs taking me in the wrong direction and closer towards the disappointing arms of a necessary sugar daddy (AKA fashioncrack)?
Okay, clearly I need to calm down, but these are valid concerns for a fashionable girl in the world today. I recently had a conversation with another fashion blog addicted friend, Lacey, over nachos and margaritas relating the effects the blogs have on our fashion and our lives. I was of the persuasion that now that I’m ‘in the know,’ I desire to be even more cutting edge, pressuring myself to spend more money on all the things I “should,” but don’t have. Her argument, also valid, assessed that she would shop anyways, but now her shopping had more purpose. Instead of purchasing a bunch of random pieces her shopping style had shifted to a go-get ‘em attitude. She used the example that she needs to buy more vests, even though ironically she was sporting a denim vest at the very same moment. Then we wondered if fashion has become our temporary boyfriends…
Meanwhile, I’m reeling over here considering a second job to support my shopping habit, which as of recent has undeniably become more expensive than my alcohol habit and definitely fiercer. I mean the sheer idea of a well put together outfit sends me fantasizing about, *gasp* three inch heels (it would be 5 inch if I wasn’t already 5’11″), pleated pants, grandpa cardigans and Hanes v-necks. Not to mention that NONE of these items would look remotely flattering on my large boned frame, oh fantasies.
So Fashion blogs… friend or foe? I guess my response is a cliche… keep your friends close and your enemies closer. Gross I know, but it’s the only kind of logic fit for this existential dilemma. Clearly I’m not going to stop looking at them!

Thanks to Jezebel.com for this link!! They are one of my favorite sites to look at during the work day.

I think my reason for starting a blog is best summed up by a friend who recently pointed out that WTF as an acronym has multiple uses. Really someone can just as easily substitute Who, When, Where or Why for the W instead of the usual What. I am curious and my goal is to make my blogging life fit in more like those additional unused W’s.
